One is not “better” than the other. The purpose of yoga is not to strive for a “deeper” or “better” pose.
The first variation is going to be a heck of a lot “better” if you are approaching it with a mindfulness of sensations, of length in your front body and a stable lower back, if you are
b r e a t h i n g, if you are present. Who cares if your spine is flexible enough to do a deep backend if you are not doing so with a mindful awareness.
Remember it’s not about the shapes.
